Community Services Program
The mission is to bring temporary aid and assistance to families in need in Ascension Parish, thereby enhancing their lives and the community. Services include; food, clothing, transportation, housing, utility bills, rent and medicine assistance.
In 2011, CSP's 15th year, 9,456 services of food, clothing, transportation, housing, utility bills, rent and medicine assistance were provided, $324,605.90 value that serviced approximately 4,196 families including holiday food baskets and toys, 1,111 volunteers with community agencies, churches, government and other not-for-profits log over 5,800 hours during the year, and many more during the holidays, 1,979 calls serviced for assistance.
A program geared to introduce young adults 12 to 17 years to volunteerism, while guaranteeing they meet new people, learn new things and gain a better understanding of the important role of volunteerism in the community.
In 2012, ConnecTeens 11th year, 41 teens volunteered over 879 hours of service through 107 agency programs.
Make A Difference Day
A program in conjunction with National Make A Difference Day, people are serviced through projects to enhance their quality of life. Projects included wheelchair ramps; minor and major home repairs; book drives; litter awareness; fundraising for charities, etc.
In 2012, MDD's 15th year, over 973 volunteers donated 2,020 hours of service to improve the community and impacted many in need.
Stuff the Bus
Volunteer Ascension's School Tools Program and the Ascension Parish School Board partner with WBRZ's "Stuff the Bus" project to collect much needed school supplies for children in need. All school supplies collected during "Stuff the Bus" will be added to Volunteer Ascension's Annual School Tools Drive and distributed throughout the parish by Volunteer Ascension.
In 2012, STB's 4th year, 21,041 supplies were collected July 18, 2012.
School Tools Program
The program was developed to help provide necessary school supplies to students in need K-8th grades in Ascension Parish schools who might otherwise go without basic school necessities. Volunteers needed to collect and sort supplies just prior to school starting and distribute the week school starts.
In 2012, ST's 15th year, Saturday's collection added 9,336 supplies to the Stuff the Bus supplies.
Stuff the Bus and School Tools collected over 30,377 school supplies.
School Uniform Program
Provides necessary school uniforms to students in need K-8th grades in Ascension Parish schools. Volunteers needed to collect, sort, repair and distribute uniforms all summer.
In 2012, SU's 11th year, over 5,008 uniform items were collected at a value of $21,350 and distributed to students in need K-8; over 142 volunteers logged nearly 388 volunteer hours.
